Time management is important for a successful work day.
We all know that time is of the essence, especially in the world of real estate. There are a million tasks that need attention at once, and at times it may be difficult to prioritize projects of importance. It is easy to fall into a “busy work hole” where you arrive at the office and decide to complete the menial tasks that are easy, just to get them out of the way – but those menial tasks keep piling up and before you know it you’ve spend an eight-hour work day doing busy work and not really getting anything “important” done.
We all do it – and that’s okay! But prioritizing is important and can help you make the most out of your work day. The best way to start is by focusing on one thing at a time – yes, your to-do list may be a mile long, but start with one important thing on that list and go from there. Maybe your goal for the day is to finish a listing presentation, and once that’s over, you can do some simpler tasks such as replying to emails or following up on calls so they don’t pile up into a mountain.
It is also important to plan your tasks around your customers – if a client has a pressing question or you know you have an appointment with a prospective buyer that week, focus on those items first. Clients are the backbone to the real estate industry, and their impressions of you truly matter in the long run. Make sure they are taken care of first!
In the end, it is most important to remember that real estate can be (and has been) referred to as a “contact sport” – if you are not in constant contact with clients, your workload will only get harder. Keeping on top of important projects and making sure that your clients are happy are the best ways to make the most out of your busy work day – and to ensure success in the future.
