Efficiency: Getting Rid of Time Consuming Tasks

Prioritizing work is the best way to cut out time-wasting activities.

tasksIn the real estate field, the myriad tasks that are always on the table can sometimes seem daunting and cause a big of disorganization. When it starts becoming confusing and difficult to organize, it’s easy to say, “heck with it,” and brush those tasks to the side for a bit while you scroll through Facebook or watch a cat video on YouTube instead. Stress is the largest factor on time-consuming tasks such as these – you work so hard that you feel as if your mind needs a break, if only for a few moments.

This isn’t a bad thing! It is true that taking breaks throughout the work day is perfectly healthy and is actually suggested when the stress gets to be so much. But a better way to avoid these stress-induced time-wasting breaks is to prioritize tasks into what is the most urgent and important – that way, the less important tasks can be put to the side, and your stress levels will decrease along with the amount of work that needs to be done in that moment.

It is suggested that tasks be prioritized into three important categories:

1. Lead generating tasks: These are tasks that are focused on gaining more clients and producing income for the brokerage. If the task fulfills either of those goals, it is considered an urgent task.
2. Client follow-up: These are tasks that are focused on client satisfaction, making sure business is being conducted smoothly, and clarifying any ideas/transactions that have been discusses. If the task fulfills either of those goals, it is considered an urgent task.
3. Compensation: These are tasks that are focused on payment, and making sure that you (and anyone else you may be partnering with) will get paid in a timely manner. If the task fulfills either of those goals, it is considered an urgent task.

These three categories should always be put to the front of the line during the work day, because of their high levels of importance. Anything else can be labeled as “less urgent” and pushed aside until you have more free time to fulfill them.
