Getting into a Routine: Making the Most of Your Workday

What's your routine - and how can you better it?

routineReal estate professionals everywhere have a lot on their plates at any given moment – whether you’re a broker, agent, or investor, there’s no doubt that a typical workday is anything short of hectic.

It can be hard to keep track of everything you have to do, but sticking to an everyday routine can help – even if the routine is small and simple. Here are some easy tips to ease a bit of stress from your work life:

Give yourself a little extra time in the morning.

We’ve all heard the saying that “if you’re 15 minutes early, you’re on time, and if you’re on time, you’re late.” Implement that saying into your mornings. You’ll be surprised the difference that 15 extra minutes can make. It gives you some extra prep time to get your computer running, make a cup of coffee, and sit for a second before beginning your work. Starting the morning by rushing to get started isn’t healthy or helpful for anyone – arriving just slightly early will give you a moment to relax.

Make use of “power hours.”

Set aside an hour each day where all you do is crank out work. No bathroom breaks, no responding to emails, and no answering calls during that hour. Put your phone on “do not disturb,” close your office door, and get started. If you know you’ll be working nonstop from 11-12 every morning, you’ll be able to better prepare for the rest of your day. You can also reward yourself by taking a 5-minute “mental break” before and after that hour, as a reward for all the work you got done – and it’ll feel great knowing you got further on one task than you would have if you had spaced it out throughout the rest of the day. Using time wisely and efficiently is the best way to utilize your work day – you’ll feel better going home knowing you got your tasks done than wishing you had spent more time on a project.
